Introduction to LL

Hi there! My name is Logan Lawton and I am starting my senior year here at OU.  I am double majoring in Psychology and Criminology.  The coolest part about my major has been all of the interesting stories my teachers have told.  Also, I have pretty much enjoyed all of the classes I have taken because of my major (once I got past gen-eds of course).  The material is never really dull and I feel like I always learn a lot.  The best class I took last semester was my Juvenile Justice class.  I took it with Dr. Hill, who is just about the nicest man ever.  His lectures were riveting and he also found cool videos to show us that were still very relevant to class material.  From time to time, he brought in speakers to talk to us about all kinds of topics in juvenile delinquency.  I was always excited to go to that class.  I would highly recommend that class to anyone that has the opportunity to take it.

This summer break was a little bit different for me.  I usually get a part-time job so that I have a lot of time to catch up with people I have not seen in a while.  But this summer, I worked from 8-5 every day.  It definitely took some adjusting but it is a lot easier to manage when you enjoy what you are doing.  I got lucky enough to be able to intern with the U.S. Secret Service in Oklahoma City this summer.  I basically process all of the counterfeit money that comes into the office.  But, I have also gotten to do things like go to the gun range, attend presentations, and even go to Portland, Oregon on a temporary assignment.  Fortunately, they are allowing me to continue my internship through this semester.  This kind of leads me into my career goals.  I would love to be able to work at a government agency.  I am not exactly sure what I want to be doing, but I think that is because I would be happy doing a variety of jobs.  So that is really what I have been up to lately!  I’ll save my list of “favorite things” for a later time.  But I will show you cute pictures of my dogs.

  1. Oh, I know Dr. Hill from Twitter, Logan! I bet that was a great class. My dad is a sociologist (Jack Gibbs), and even though he is now 90 years old (!) he is still keeping up with sociology and every once in a while he sends me a paper he has written that he asks me to put on the Internet for him. And the Secret Service: wow! That sounds very cool. Maybe you can imagine some kind of "secret service" type of project for this class, where you could imagine the un-told stories of the Secret Service agents who work for the epic kings.

And thank you for the cute dog pictures of course... I should put together a giant photo collage of all the cute pet pix from the Introductions. :-)

I hope you enjoy the class!

  2. Hey Logan! I'm also a psych major so hey that's pretty cool! But I think it's so interesting that you are studying criminology as well! Your internship at the Secret Service seems really awesome; you don't hear that often :-) and it seems like they provided you with a lot of different options for you to go into later on! Good luck with your senior year!

And I am extremely jealous of your three dogs. I've never had a pet unfortunately, but if I did, I would immediately go buy a corgi.

  3. Hi fellow Crim major!! :D I'm taking Crim from Dr. Hill this semester, and I have to agree, he's a pretty cool dude. I haven't taken Juvenile Justice, but it's one I'm considering.
Also, I'm super jealous of your internship. That sounds like it would be right up my alley, so congrats on such an awesome opportunity!!
    PS- I love your puppers

  4. Hey Logan.
That's great that you got an internship with the Secret Service! That should definitely help you to get where you want to go. It was also interesting to hear about the classes that you have taken in the past. I bet juvenile delinquency was a very interesting class because its a delicate situation to handle. Wish you the best in the future, and nice dogs.

  5. Hi Logan,

It's is pretty neat that you got to intern at the secret services. It sounds so cool to work with secret services kind of like those you see in movies and shows. It sounds like it was just as exciting as you see in shows. That is nice that they offer it during a school year too, I bet it really helps you with your major and with your decision to what field you want to work with in particular after you graduate. You have really cute dogs (:

  6. Hi Logan,

It is so cool that you interned for the Oklahoma Secret Service. I think that it's awesome that you are getting to work towards something you enjoy while still learning about what you enjoy. I'm a Letters major but considered criminology for a while because I heard that all the classes were really interesting. I hope you have a great semester continuing your internship.

  9. Logan,
I am jealous of your internship from this summer. That is a really cool way to turn your degree into a job you will enjoy later in life. I think it would be really interesting to see all the different kinds of counterfeit money that comes through that office. I don't know if you have seen the movie catch me if you can but it reminds me of what you would have been doing this summer. Good luck with graduation.

  10. Hey, Logan! Wow, I think both your choice of study and your internship are super cool - especially the latter! I have never heard of anyone who has interned with the Secret Service before, and I think that is the absolute coolest internship I have ever heard of. I think it gave you some valuable experience and a very, very interesting stepping stone into the job market! I wish you the best in your final year in college, and look forward to reading more of your posts!

  11. Logan, I think it's great that you feel like you would be happy doing a variety of jobs, but that you still have a goal set for yourself. Interning is super important and helps give you experience you will need after you graduate, and it also helps your resume stand out. An internship with the Secret Service will ensure that no other applicant can outdo you! Also, your dogs are really cute. I look forward to reading your storied this semester!

  12. Hi Logan! Congrats on being a senior! That's awesome that you're double majoring in Psych and Criminology. I almost took a criminology course for an elective, but I ended up taking a different course instead. It's a really interesting topic, I'm surprised I didn't delve deeper into it. I have not taken that course with Dr. Hill, but maybe one day if I ever decide to come back for some reason. I'm also a Psych major, though, and can definitely relate to working an 8-5 job. I am currently working one and it was fairly new to me too, when I started out last Fall. It's different, but it's nice. That's really great that you have an idea of what you would like to do post-grad and your optimism in the work-force. We definitely need more people that are willing to work various jobs to learn and gain different experiences. Good luck nearing graduation and after! It was great to meet you!

I’ve heard it’s beautiful. Also, what a cool internship! That sounds like an amazing experience, and I’m sure you got to learn a lot. Your dogs are absolutely adorable.

  16. Hi, Logan!
I am also a senior. Both of your majors sound so cool, especially criminology. Watching shows like Criminal Minds almost made me major in Criminology, but I finally chose Biology instead. It was great that you got to intern with the U. S. Secret Service. I bet you did a good job at processing counterfeit money. It sounds like you alraeyd had your future planned out! Good Luck! Also, your dogs are adorable!

I used to be a psychology major and I ended up transferring to architecture, but I still have an interest in psychology.
